Notes

  • David Marchesi writes: -
"Fred lived with his parents in Littlehampton, Bath, Birmingham and Teignmouth, before they emigrated to Australia, in November 1947. He suffered asthma from an early age and this was a major consideration for his parents in making this significant decision.

My brother and I went to school, he at Upwey High School, I at Lower Ferntree Gully R.C. primary school, run by the Presentation sisters. We then attended Xavier College, Kew, from 1950 to 1952/4.

Sadly, my brother Frederick, 07.02.1934 - 06.01.1961 never got rid of his asthma, and this contributed, no doubt, to his early death. Trained as a primary school teacher, Frederick worked for two happy years in the bush, at Murrindal (a one-teacher school near Buchan) and then moved down to an inner-city school at Collingwood. He married Denise in 1959, and their son David John, was born on 19 August 1960. Dying soon, Frederick hardly knew his son; Denise re-married about a year later to an Italian immigrant from Castelfiorentino, Giunio Leoncini, and the little boy took his step-father's name. They lived in the Geelong area.

David John Leoncini is, therefore, actually a Marchesi by blood. He has twin boys and is surely not the only Australian Marchesi from the Poschiavo area, but like me, has not met any of the distant Australian cousins."
